Gone fishin'

At the Longhorn Ranch we not only give you our very own stretch of the Wind River, but now also offer guided fishing tours, angling and casting instruction, as well as a full-service fly shop with all the gear you need.

The Dubois area is unique and has countless activities to offer.  One of them is FISHING! Sure, we might not get the same recognition as North Platte, Snake or Madison, but on the other hand we are also free of the crowds.

The fishing here is second to none and we have lots of it.  The Wind is a freestone river that runs right through downtown Dubois.  Along its way down to the valley, different streams feed into the Wind River.  In the river you will find generous populations of brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout, as well as mountain whitefish.  Between fast moving pockets, deep runs and dry fly flats the Wind offers all the possible places for trout to hide.

Dredging the bottom with nymphs, chucking big ugly streamers, or waiting for the evening caddis and mayfly hatches to start, the river provides the angler with every possible scenario. Not only do we have the Wind to fish but we also have all the feeder streams, such as the East Fork, Wiggins Fork, Horse Creek, Warm Springs Creek, and Brooks Lake Creek.  Not to mention an endless amount of clear high mountain lakes.  Every watershed near the Dubois area has something different to offer — but all have one thing in common: large populations of feeding trout.

Whether you are a beginner to the sport or a seasoned pro we have the right water for you.  We want your fly fishing experience to be the best you can have because you are already in the best place for this sport.  We take pride in matching our clients to certain types of water where you will be the most confident and successful.

Winter fishing

One thing about our water is the unique combination of warm feeder springs and warm winds during the winter.  This makes winter fly fishing a reality.  You see our trout stay active all winter long, especially the larger fish that are always looking for a meal.  So the next time you think that you need to pack it in because the snow is starting to fly think again.  We can show you the best winter fishing in the North West right here in Dubois.

So let's sum it all up: great fishing, no crowds, a wide variety of streams, helpful guides, and year-round access to feeding fish.

Don’t think about it any longer.  Book your fly fishing trip of a lifetime now.

Our guides are the best in the business and will take care of you from start to finish. We love the teaching end of the sport and that's why Laramie has become a certified casting instructor through the Federation of Fly Fishers. We take an instructional approach to guiding. We want you to catch fish but we also want to see you grow as an angler.

Open Seasonally,  Wicked Winds provides you with helpful employees to answer questions, give casting lessons/demonstrations, help you find what you’re looking for or just talk fishing. So while you’re enjoying your stay in Wind River country be sure to come and visit the biggest little fly shop in the west.

Guided fishing trips

On all of our guided fishing trips we take a teaching approach to fishing.  When you are out on a guided trip with us we want you to catch fish but more importantly we want you to walk off of the river at the end of the day with the knowledge and confidence to continue with the sport of fly fishing.  You will get in-depth knowledge about reading the water, looking at aquatic insects and selecting different types of casts for different situations on the river.  All of our guided trips are catch-and-release only.
